--Permanent Pacemaker Implantation:
Pacemaker implants are advised by doctors when a patient's heart rate falls and is slow. The pacemaker system consists of a pulse generator which holds the battery and the circuits. The pacemaker also has wires that are introduced into the heart through the veins in the patient's upper arm. These leads carry electrical impulses to the heart. These impulses cause it to beat (contract) at a pre-determined frequency set by the pacemaker.
--Heart Failure Clinics
--Foot & Ankle
This department looks into ailments that cover a wide range of conditions involving the foot and ankle. Sports injuries, trauma and chronic condition such as ankle instability are one of the few conditions treated here.
The orthopedic and geriatric departments work in unison to enable a thorough evaluation and comprehensive treatment of elderly patients. This helps ensure that the general health of the elderly is taken care of and all medical conditions are evaluated and properly treated. This approach also helps ready the patient for surgery that needs to be undertaken. The treatment and care of these patients do not stop after surgery. It continues in the form of rehabilitation, physiotherapy, etc.
--Joint replacement :-
This involves consultation, treatment and surgery of arthritis of the hip and knees that have failed non-surgical treatment.
--A total hip replacement
Also called a hip arthroplasty- is an advanced surgical procedure that re-structures the hip joint region.
--Knee replacement surgery procedure
During a knee replacement surgery, the bone and cartilage on the end of the thigh bone (femur) and top of the shin bone (tibia) are removed. This is performed using precision instruments to create exact surfaces to fit the implant. A metal and plastic knee replacement implant is then fitted in to function as a new knee joint. The knee replacement surgery can be performed as a total knee replacement or partial. In general the TKR surgery consists of replacing the diseased or damaged joint surfaces of the knee with plastic and metal components shaped to allow smooth motion and working of the knee.
Ankle replacement ankle arthroplasty is performed in Alexandra hospital. Ankle replacement is a surgical procedure to replace the damaged articular surfaces of the ankle joint with prosthetic and manufactured components. The Ankle replacement procedure is slowly becoming the treatment of choice for patients. This is being used in place of the conventional use of arthrodesis, i.e. fusion of the bones. What makes Ankle replacement better than arthrodesis is the restoration of a range of ankle movements.
